|
An Introduction to Sea Palling
|
Sea Palling is a small, quiet family seaside resort on the East Norfolk Coast. This wonderful, blue flag, sandy beach is deserted for most of the year and is a great place for a walk. A number of reefs have been built as part of the coast defences and it calms the waves making Sea Palling an ideal place to swim or for children to play. There are plenty of facilities for such a small resort, including a pub, cafe, shop and small amusement arcade. |

Sea Palling Guided Picture Tour
|
We start our tour of Sea Palling on the beach which is simply stunning - one of the best on the Norfolk Coast. For most of the year you can walk for miles and hardly see anybody else! Offshore man-made reefs calm the water
and this makes the beach a wonderful safe place to relax or walk the dog ( pets welcome on limited parts of the beach all year round). Along the coast, sand dunes separate the low lying land from the sea.
The dunes give great views of the coast and surrounding countryside. |

A ramp separates the sea from the low lying village and there is a inshore lifeboat station at the top. There is also a flood gate at the top of the ramp, which is closed when there is a threat of a storm surge, this offers some protection from flooding, one of the measures that was taken after the devastating floods in 1953, which affected so much of this area of the Norfolk Coast. |

Just off the beach, down the ramp, is a number of village facilities including a pub called Reefs Bar, which has regular live music, football on a big screen and is open all day. You will also find Sandyhills Amusements and Cafe, serving all kinds of hot and cold drinks and snacks, plus a small amusement arcade. |

Nearby Waxham Barn is one the oldest farm buildings still standing in Norfolk. The huge barn dates back to the 16th century and was restored by Norfolk County Council during the 1990's. The barn is open to the public and is used as a venue for various events during the summer months. There is also a small exhibition of Elizabethan agriculture, plus a cafe, serving drinks, cakes and light lunches. |
