An Introduction to the Trinity Broads of Filby, Rollesby and Ormesby
|
The Trinity Broads are 3 lakes that can be found in the north eastern region of the Norfolk Broads. The 3 broads are 'land locked', meaning that they are not connected to the main Norfolk Broads waterways, so you cannot get to them via boat. The 3 broads are Ormesby Broad, Rollesby Broad and Filby Broad, collectively known as the Trinity Broads. Because they are 'land locked' they are much quieter than other broads and other than the odd sailing dinghy or rowing boat, they are free from boats. Fishing is popular and a number of boardwalks have been created to allow easy access to the water for fishing, such as at Rollesby Bridge. The Trinity Broads are also a good place to see nature and wildlife, for example at the Filby Boardwalk. The area has a good restaurant (Waterside) and a great pub (Boat House), plus a cafés at Broadland Nurseries Garden Centre and Filby Bridge. |

Also close to Rollesby Broad is a number of attractions that are well worth visiting. The newly opened Boat House pub overlooks Rollesby Broad and it's grassy bank makes an attractive place for a refreshment on a sunny day (adjacent kids play area). As well as a pub, the Boat House offers boat trips and is a registered wedding venue. Broadland Nurseries offers a well stocked plant shop and adjacent cafe. The Waterside Restaurant and Cafe overlooks Rollesby Broad and also has a boat trips, mini-golf and kids play-area. |

Moving on to Filby, we arrive at the car-park adjacent to the bridge where Filby Broad meets Little Ormesby Broad. Directly from the car-park, a pathway leads through woodland to a viewing point over Little Ormesby Broad (unfortunately no dogs allowed). South of the bridge is a boardwalk overlooking Filby Broad and used by fishermen. |
